Smartrac's EAGLE tag

Excellent Performance of the EAGLE Tag Confirmed by RFID Lab at Auburn University

RFID tags offer retailers a wealth of benefits that are becoming increasingly important in this highly competitive sector. Retail applications demand excellent performance, reliability and – in many cases – a compact form factor from the applied tags. Smartrac's all-new RAIN RFID EAGLE tags satisfy all these demands.

For retailers and brands as for other industries, the performance and reliability of RFID tags is assessed by the RFID Lab at Auburn University and its ARC testing program. Therefore, it is a distinction that Smartrac’s EAGLE inlays and tags passed ARC categories A, B, C, D, F, G, I, K, M, and Q despite its extra-small size: as of January 2019, this new RAIN RFID (UHF) product is the smallest retail-orientated inlay with global performance available on the market to pass all these categories.

Easy Conversion for End-application Usage

In the case of EAGLE inlays and tags, “small” means 44 x 28 mm / 1.7 x 1.1 in, a compact size that makes the EAGLE the smallest global RAIN RFID inlays for retail applications and allows easy conversion for end-application usage. Customers can order EAGLE in dry and paper-tag delivery formats.

Performance is also related to the chip that is used, and EAGLE certainly excels in that respect as well, since it comes with NXP’s latest UCODE 8 IC. This chip shares memory size and typical IC features with the widely used and proven NXP UCODE 7 IC. Furthermore, UCODE 8 features an automatic adjustment function (SELF ADJUST) that optimizes the chip’s sensitivity to gain maximum performance in different environments. This optimization is performed at startup and is enabled in the default chip configuration as delivered by NXP. Furthermore, the chip has an integrated Brand Identifier function to prove product authenticity, and a memory safeguard system to protect business data.

EAGLE and Smart Cosmos: A ‘Dream Team’ for Quality Assurance and Digitization

EAGLE gains a dual benefit from the capabilities of Smart Cosmos®. Smartrac’s IoT solutions platform can record and manage a complete set of unique transponder data (e.g. UID no., order no., batch no., or yield) at the production level in a controlled and secure way. Hence, Smart Cosmos enables full traceability of delivered RFID products and provides reliable quality assurance. As Smartrac’s ‘solutions umbrella’ for digitized products, Smart Cosmos fully leverages EAGLE’s superior capabilities as well, delivering on the promise to help brands and retailers transform for the digital age. The new UCODE 8 based tags and inlays are perfect components and enablers for Smartrac’s brand protection and item tracking solutions.

UCODE 8 Based RAIN RFID Portfolio Broadened

In addition to its compact and versatile EAGLE inlays and tags, Smartrac is further extending its RAIN RFID portfolio by launching new UCODE 8 based versions of its successful MIDAS FLAGTAG® and MINIWEB product lines. Introduced in 2018 with an Impinj Monza R6 IC, MIDAS FLAGTAG is a cost-efficient, high-performance tag for metallic surfaces and everyday objects, while MiniWeb inlays are designed especially for apparel applications and can easily be converted into small-sized hangtags and other apparel labels.

“We are expanding our retail-centric RAIN RFID product portfolio in two ways at the same time: with a completely new inlay, plus two new versions of already successful products. With EAGLE, MIDAS FLAGTAG and MINIWEB, we further underline the aim to provide the market’s most versatile and advanced RAIN RFID transponders for global retail applications.”
Hal Hikita, Senior Vice President Product Management at Smartrac.
