Neology’s key ISO 18000-6C related patents confirmed by US Patent Office
San Diego, CA, USA, September 22, 2015 – The US Patent Office has confirmed several important ISO 18000-6C related patents held by Neology, a leader in secure high-value Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions.
In 2014, Neology filed a lawsuit in a U.S. District Court against Kapsch TrafficCom USA for infringement of Neology patents. The lawsuit requires Kapsch TrafficCom USA to immediately and permanently stop directly or indirectly making, using, selling or offering for sale, importing or exporting all infringing RFID products including systems, subsystems, readers and tags.
In reaction to the lawsuit, Kapsch attempted to challenge the Neology patents at the US Patent Office (PTO) via an Inter Partes Review. After an initial response from Neology, the PTO now has confirmed the validity of four of the most relevant Neology patents. These patents read on the ISO 18000-6C communication protocol used for tolling applications. The challenge will go forward for the remaining patent claims, but Neology is confident that further claims will be found valid through this process.
Francisco Martinez de Velasco, Chief Executive Officer of Neology, stated: "We are very pleased about this outcome. The decision of the US Patent Office confirms our thought leadership and innovative strength as the leading provider of 18000-6C passive RFID products and AVI systems in North America.”
Christian Uhl, Chief Executive Officer of SMARTRAC Technology Group, also commented on the importance of the decision: “Backed by our outstanding portfolio of more than 1000 patents and patent applications, we will continue to set the highest standards in the RFID industry. Therefore, this patent confirmation is a fundamental certification of our global strategy to lead the RFID market through technology, innovation and quality.”
Recently, Neology reached a milestone when it was granted its 100th patent, which represents a significant achievement in terms of the company’s Intellectual Property portfolio. On that occasion, Neology announced significant investments in R&D to further support a rapidly expanding 18000-6C transportation ecosystem.
